FlatHunt

Find a flat.
Find your people.

Flats, rooms, PG beds and flatmates across Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Delhi NCR, Chennai, Kolkata and Chandigarh — with no brokerage. Moving out of a shared flat? Find the person who takes your room. Looking for a room? Take over one someone is leaving — same rent, same agreement, no broker.

Posting and browsing are free. No brokerage, ever.

The situation

Leaving a flat mid-lease is somebody else's problem to solve, and it becomes yours.

The agreement runs on. The deposit is with the owner. Your flatmates need someone to cover your share by the first. So you post in four WhatsApp groups and hope.

A broker wants a month's rent

For introducing you to a room that your own flatmates are already trying to fill.

Group posts scroll away in an hour

And the people who would have said yes were not looking at their phone at the time.

Listing sites are built for landlords

Not for the person leaving one room in a flat of four, which is a different thing entirely.

How it works

Both sides of the same handover.

If you're leaving

  1. Post the room

Rent, deposit, what's included, and the house rules that actually decide it — veg or not, smoking, pets, who you'd live well with.

  2. People who match get told

Anyone whose saved search fits your room is notified the moment you post, not whenever they next open the app.

  3. Talk, then hand over

Chat in the app, meet, and pick your replacement. Mark the room closed when it's done.

If you're looking

  1. Say what you want

Budget, area, diet, room type. Save it once and the search keeps running without you.

  2. See the whole cost

Rent plus maintenance, electricity, water, help — the number you'll actually pay each month, not the one in the headline.

  3. Message the person, not an agent

You're talking to whoever lives there. Nobody's commission depends on the answer.

What you get that you don't have now

Four things that decide whether you find a room or miss it.

Alerts

The good rooms go in days. You'll hear in seconds.

Save what you're after once — budget, area, diet, room type — and stop checking. The moment somebody posts a room that fits it, your phone tells you. Not a daily digest, not whenever you next open the app.

  • Save as many searches as you like, for different areas or budgets
  • Fires the instant the listing goes up, not on a schedule
  • Being first to reply is most of the advantage

Map

“Twenty minutes from work” — measured, not promised.

Set your office once and every room is measured from it by road, so you can see which flats are genuinely nearest to where you work — not nearest in a straight line across a creek. Tap one and everything else clears: just that flat, you, and what is around it. The nearest metro or railway station, supermarket, gym, hospital, park and pharmacy, each with how far and how long.

  • Your commute, drawn on the map, not guessed from a locality name
  • Sort the whole city by the drive to your office, nearest first
  • Tap any place to route to it from the flat

Chat

Ask the awkward questions. Agree the price.

Message the person who actually lives there — not an agent working on commission. Ask what the water situation is in May, whether the deposit is negotiable, whether they mind a cat. Settle the date and the number before anyone travels.

  • Straight to the poster, with photos if you need them
  • Nobody's cut depends on the answer, so the answers are honest
  • Block or report anyone, once, and you are done with them
Deposit is 2 months, but I'd do 1.5 if you can take it from the 1st.
Works for me. Is the maintenance on top of the ₹18,500?
Included. Only electricity is split three ways.
Great — Saturday morning to see it?

Who you're talking to

A real name, a real job, and a badge that had to be earned.

You're deciding whether to live with a stranger. A verified tick means we checked their LinkedIn profile exists and that the name on it matches the name on the account — so the badge cannot be bought by pasting somebody else's URL. Change your name afterwards and the tick comes off.

  • Profiles carry a photo, age, profession and company
  • Phone numbers are never in a listing — shared only when you choose
  • Report or block anyone; photos and text are screened

The tick means the profile is real and the name matches. It is not a background check.

Also in there

The details that save a wasted Saturday.

House rules up front

Diet, smoking, drinking, pets, guests and who the room is open to, stated on the listing before anyone spends a day travelling to find out.

Find flatmates, not just rooms

Got a place and need two more people? Or want to hunt together? Post what you're after and team up before anyone signs anything.

What the setup costs, itemised

The outgoing tenant's TV, fridge and washing machine usually come with a price. It's stated up front with a list of what it covers — or filtered out entirely if you'd rather not buy into somebody's furniture.

Who's already living there

Every listing shows the household at a glance — how many people, and who the free room is open to. No decoding a paragraph to find out it's men only.

Hunt a city before you move to it

In Mumbai, moving to Bengaluru? Set the city and your new office, and the map opens there with the flats around it. Distances are measured from the desk you're starting at, not the one you're leaving.

Search by building, not just area

Know the society you want? Type it. Search runs over building names, localities and descriptions across everything live in your city.

Questions

The ones worth answering.

Is there really no brokerage?
None. You're talking to the person leaving the room or the people living in the flat. There is no agent in the middle and no commission to pay.
What does it cost?
Posting a room, browsing what's nearby, shortlisting and chatting are free and stay free. A subscription unlocks the filtered Matches feed, the map, new-match alerts, teaming up with flatmates, and revealing a contact number — weekly or monthly, because a flat hunt ends and a plan you forget to cancel is not a business we want. Every account gets a free week first.
Who posts on FlatHunt?
Three kinds of poster, and the app asks which you are before anything else. Tenants leaving a shared flat who need somebody to take over their room. Owners letting a flat or a room directly to a new tenant, with no agent in between. And PG and hostel operators listing beds. Seekers get all three in one search, and filter to whichever they want.
How do you keep it safe?
The verified tick comes from signing in with LinkedIn, so it is LinkedIn confirming who somebody is. Phone numbers are never shown in a listing, anyone can be reported or blocked, photos and text are screened, and reports are reviewed.
Do you handle the rent agreement?
No. FlatHunt introduces the two of you and gets out of the way — the agreement, deposit and any paperwork stay between you, your flatmates and the owner.

Your room, handed over properly.

No brokerage, and nobody takes a cut of your deposit.
